Data Storage Solutions Part 2: Solid State Drive (SSD) storage solutions – internal and external
As data storage solutions become more and more advanced, the decision of how to store your data becomes increasingly challenging. In Part 1 of our Data Storage Solutions blog series, we covered the basics of traditional disk-based storage solutions. Now, let’s take a closer look at two types of solid state drive (SSD) storage solutions – internal and external.
When it comes to internal SSD storage solutions, the most important thing to consider is overall cost. While prices are constantly coming down, they’re still more expensive than traditional hard drives on a per-gigabyte basis. However, the difference in performance is undeniable – read and write speeds on SSDs are far faster than those of standard HDDs. Additionally, the level of reliability and durability that you get with an SSD is greater, as well.
In terms of external solid state drives, we see a lot of the same advantages. Since external SSDs are designed for portability and convenience, their sizes tend to be smaller and their form factors tend to be simpler than their traditional counterparts. However, since external SSDs aren’t installed internally, users need to pay attention to compatibility – make sure your particular model is compatible with your computer or device before you purchase it. Like their internal counterparts, external SSDs offer greater performance and reliability over traditional HDDs.
The takeaway here is that while solid state drive storage solutions may cost more upfront, they offer much better performance and reliability over the long term. If you’re looking for a reliable, fast way to store your valuable data, an internal or external SSD could be just what you’re looking for.
